Hanging with a Hollywood actress and the founder of ESPN!

I just had a crazy week at Book Expo America! Amazon kicked it off Monday night with a huge rooftop party at Ink 48, where I was able to see my buddies and fellow AmazonEncore authors Karen McQuestion and Raymond Bean, as well as meet some of the other Encore authors for the first time. J. Gregory Smith (Final Price) and David Miller (AWOL on the Appalachian Trail) were absolute sweethearts, and David surprised me by quoting a few lines from my book! (I bought his book for my Kindle later that night to return the favor. I bought Final Price too. How could I not want to read a book about a serial killer who sells cars on the side?) I also met Elisa Lorello and Sarah Girrell (authors of Why I Love Singlehood), who impressed me with their story of seamlessly co-writing a novel over email. They were hilarious and super nice.

At the show itself I had a lot of fun hanging out with the unbelievably kind and humble Bill Rasmussen, the founder of ESPN. His book is called Sports Junkies Rejoice. I also spent much of the week with Hollywood actress Tanya Wright of “True Blood” fame, who had me laughing left and right. Her novel is called Butterfly Rising, which she also made into a feature film– she is legit. The three of us were interviewed by several journalists about the interesting yet completely different paths we took to becoming authors.

The conference ended this morning with a great conversation with Andrea Sachs of Time magazine! After the interview she shook my hand and congratulated me on how diligently I worked to get Perfect on Paper published. That was a pretty cool moment for me. I have no idea if she’ll write an article, but to be honest, the sincere admiration she showed for all the hard word I put into getting published was enough.

Here’s a picture of me with Bill. I’m sad I forgot to get one with Tanya!
